Sometimes food sounds like a better idea than it is. Sometimes not. The Tacoma Bell tacos made with a Dorito shell, now that was a good idea. Very tasty. Wendy's Hamburgers baked sweet potatoes, very, very tasty. The new KFC Bite, not so much.
I love KFC and have ever since I had it as a child. And it's always the "original recipe" that I adore. I love the food, but try not to eat it as often as I would like. Lots of sodium and lots of calories. The new TV commercials for their new "Bite," however drug me in for a sample.
Looking at the order board reminded me of a major dislike. You have to search for the cheaper versions and even then they are quite often not printed on the big board. The Bites were being offered as a six piece combo and a ten piece combo, but nowhere did I see that you could simply order the Bites by themselves, which you can. I got the ten piece for just under five dollars. Knowing that I can get an eight piece container of fried chicken from either Safeway or Albertsons on Fridays for about the same price didn't seem quite right.
If the taste had been as I had hoped, the price wouldn't have mattered so much. In this case it did. The Bite was a little dry. Also, just being a chunk of chicken breast without skin, meant that beside being dry, it had no crunch or much flavor. The orgininal recipe coating was there, but it didn't deliver the promise that my tongue was hoping for.
I think if KFC had a build your own combo, I would have it contain three pieces of "original recipe" fried thighs, cole slaw, and a biscuit. The thighs have skin, flavor, crunchiness, flavor, chicken fatto make it moist, and . . . did I mention flavor? All of the missing ingredients in the Bite will make it easy for me to stay away from KFC until I have to have a regular, downhome, original recipe, Kentucky Fried Chicken dinner. I rarely go for any kind of dinner options at KFC. The sides are mostly horrible. Of course I like the cole slaw and love the biscuits . . . forget the mushy corn, however. The KFC corn on the cob is to excellent as the KFC Bite is to Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Does anyone else have a problem with the charge per piece at KFC?
